Roads are very important in the transportation system of Bangladesh at present. The name of the government agency engaged in road transport in Bangladesh is the Bangladesh Road and Transport Corporation (BRTC). It government established it in 1961. In addition, there are currently about 21 thousand kilometers of roadways in the country. Of these, about 15 thousand kilometers are paved roads. Although some progress has been made in road communication in recent times, authorities have not developed a complete road mobility system yet.
